Healthcare: Affordable & Accessible Medical Services

Problem:

Rural communities in Rajasthan face significant challenges in accessing quality healthcare due to a lack of medical facilities, high treatment costs, and long distances to urban hospitals. Many families struggle to afford basic medical consultations and medicines, leading to untreated illnesses and worsening health conditions.

Solution:

To address these challenges, Visamo Charitable Trust launched multiple healthcare initiatives aimed at providing affordable, accessible, and quality medical services to underserved populations.

Establishment of a New Clinic in Bhev, Rajasthan

  • A 5-bed clinic was set up to cater to the immediate medical needs of the local population.
  • Plans are underway to expand this facility into a 500-bed multispecialty hospital, ensuring comprehensive medical care for a larger population.
  • To make healthcare truly affordable, a nominal consultation fee of just ₹5 was introduced, enabling even the economically weaker sections to seek medical assistance without financial stress.
  • Within the first year of operation, the clinic successfully treated 5,218 patients. In the second year, the number increased to 7,468 patients, highlighting the growing trust and necessity of this facility in the region.
Medical Store Initiative
  • Recognizing the high cost of medicines as a barrier to treatment, the trust established a medical store offering essential medicines at concessional rates.
  • This initiative ensured that patients could afford the prescribed medications without compromising their financial stability.
Availability of Qualified Doctors
  • Dr. Chitra Rathod (General Physician) has been appointed as a full-time resident doctor, providing consistent and reliable medical care to the local community.
  • Dr. C.L. Vidhani (General Physician) from Ahmedabad visits twice a month, bringing additional medical expertise and support to patients with chronic or severe conditions.

Impact:

  • Thousands of patients received affordable and quality medical care that was previously out of reach.
  • Healthcare accessibility has significantly improved in remote villages, reducing dependency on distant urban hospitals.
  • The planned 500-bed multispecialty hospital will revolutionize medical services in the region, offering advanced treatments, specialized care, and emergency services in a rural setting.
